The Names of Jesus showing us the Savior we Need

This year the Lord has led me to preach a series of messages from Isaiah 7-9, reviewing the names given to Jesus in remembrance of that Christmas morning long ago. Each name has a unique meaning and helps us to identify how special this child is. Immanuel declares “God is with us” referring to Jesus’ birth and life. Wonderful Counselor helps us to realize we need to come to Him for wisdom beyond human understanding. Mighty God speaks of His almighty power to meet our needs. Everlasting Father reveals Jesus as the head of the family of God and the Messiah. Prince of Peace reminds us that true peace only comes from a relationship with Jesus Christ as the Savior and Lord. It also teaches us that peace in our relationships with others is best realized through mutual relationship to Christ.

The passage as a whole reveals to us the real Christmas story. That God took on human flesh coming as our Savior. Through his life and sacrifice He saves us from our sin. He offers what we need to know. He is the One who gives true meaning to life.

It is always our desire at Christmas to be sure our loved ones, family, and friends know the One who is Immanuel, “God with us.” Knowing Him they seek His counsel, find His power, rejoice in a relationship with Him as the Eternal Father, and know that special peace that only He can give.

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given;

and the government shall be upon his shoulder,

and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor,

Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isa 9:6

Wishing all the joy of knowing the Savior born on Christmas Day
