HOW WELCOMING IS YOUR CHURCH?

WELCOMING WORKSHOP/SEMINAR

Most churches think they are welcoming but the question is, “What does it mean to be Welcoming?” A deeper understanding of welcoming brings us to the point of understanding the relationship between welcoming and assimilating.

BBM is offering a new seminar/workshop for the local church to assess the critical points welcoming and assimilating. Step one is a basic assessment of how welcoming the church is and does it lead to assimilation. This is generally done before the seminar/workshop through an online short assessment by church members and staff.

The Workshop/Seminar is held in either in one day (most often a Saturday in four hours) or can be conducted in several shorter sessions over a few weeks.

  1. Session #1 - Defining welcoming and assimilating in light of the local church assessment.

§  Knowing how friendly and welcoming your church is or is not

§  Knowing your church personality

§  Knowing your community

  1. Session #2 – What makes a church a welcoming church?

§  Biblical foundations for welcoming

§  Strategic implications for the local church

  1. Session #3 – What changes does the church need to make in light what they have learned about themselves and the biblical model?

§  Inviting people find your church

§  Being socially relevant and using social media

§  Building a greeting team

§  Providing a safe place

  1. Session #4 – How does a church move people from being welcomed to assimilating them into the church?

§  Helping people discover your church’s uniqueness

§  Finding a place for sharing in life together

§  Enabling people to serve in the church

  1. Session #5 – Planning an implementation a strategy

The specifics of the workshop are modified to fit the individual church. All BBM workshops are developed based on a basic understanding of the uniqueness of the local church and/or the pastor’s input. BBM also offers follow-up consulting and implementation support

An advanced separate workshop can be considered that helps people discover where they fit into the body. PLACE/ministries workshop materials are used in this workshop. The advantage of adding this workshop/seminar is though the biblical and practical teaching included people can begin to understand not only what their personality profile and individual spiritual gifts are but how they relate to functioning as a body. This workshop allows the church to have a well established system of assimilation.
