After many years as a pastor and leading BBM, the Lord led me into chaplaincy ministries. In addition to my ministry with BBM I currently serve with Marketplace Chaplains and in a hospice ministry. Both ministries emphasize a ministry of presence. Simply put, the chaplain is a person who is there when you need him or simply want someone to be there.
The ministry of Chaplains includes, but is not limited to, the following:
Availability 24/7
Confidentiality
Willingness to listen
A support in times of struggles or crises (big or small)
A sounding board
Someone to pray with you
BBM has had a mission to come alongside pastors, leaders, and believers in every area of ministry from times of transition to times of crises. We have not called it a chaplaincy ministry. But recently at our annual BBM board ministry we discussed finding new ways to reach out to pastors, leaders, and believers. Thinking and praying, I was drawn to make a connection between my ministry as a chaplain and the ministry of BBM.
People often may recognize a need for a chaplain in a crisis, such as an illness or facing death. Pastors a less likely to think they need a “chaplain,” but often could use someone to just be there for them. All of us at times could benefit from someone just being there in a confidential setting. That is what chaplaincy offers.
In light of that, BBM is now offering pastors, leaders, and others a free breakfast or lunch with a “Chaplain.” In addition to the in-person we can also offer virtual times or even just a phone call.
Because God has blessed BBM with a small amount of resources for this, we are able to offer it at no cost in several regions. The purpose is to simply provide “a ministry of presence.” You do not need to be facing a crises or transition to participate; perhaps you simply would like a time of fellowship with a Christian leader. Let us be there for you! We can also offer a time for your church leadership team to meet together with us.
